FAQ

Can 5 Second Fix hardens in places with no light?

The bond is stronger to areas that can be easily accessed by UV light. Bonding through clear, semi-clear, or translucent material works well. If using solid materials, bonding in thinner layers is highly suggested. Liquid welder that is not accessible to the UV light will not bond, but should be cured over a 24 hours period.

Where can I use 5 Second Fix?

The liquid material bonds and then cures when exposed to UV light, and cannot be applied outdoors in direct sunlight. Work outdoors in a cool shaded area or indoors in a well ventilated area. Do not expose UV light into the liquid welder tube or tip. This may cause the liquid welder material to become bonded inside the tube.

How long does 5 Second Fix take to bond?

The UV light will bond 5 Second Fix liquid material approximately the size of a pea within 5 seconds. For larger application, allow longer exposure to the UV light to be sure the bond is made.

How do I use the UV light?

The UV light should be held within 3-5mm from the application area. The centre or “eye” of the UV light should be focused on the desired application area. Distance of light, clarity of the UV lens, thickness of the liquid welder and other factors will greatly influence bonding time.

How thick do I apply 5 Second Fix?

Depending on required thickness, apply 5 Second Fix in several layers. Each layer approx. 1mm-2mm thick can be bonded per the directions.

Can I modify previous 5 Second Fix projects by adding more 5 Second Fix to them later?

Yes, applying a fresh coat of Second Fix on an already hardened coat does not pose a problem.

Can I mill, polish, or varnishing 5 Second Fix after it hardens?

Yes, 5 Second Fix can be milled, polished or varnished after it hardens.

What is the temperature range of 5 Second Fix?

5 Second Fix has a temperature range of -15°C to 50°F. Anything outside of this range will cause 5 Second Fix to react in some way.

Can I connect parts using 5 Second Fix that have very small contact surfaces?

Yes, 5 Second Fix is excellent for small contact surfaces in almost all materials. Make sure to apply enough layers to ensure stability. To improve stability and pull-off force, you could make undercuts like little holes, scratches or cuts on both ends of the parts.

Can 5 Second Fix be removed from smooth surfaces?

We recommend the use of scrapers. Giving the 5 Second Fix a short, sharp shove from the side dislodges it cleanly from the base. Any remnants left behind can be easily removed with conventional cleaners.

Can I use 5 Second Fix as an insulating material?

No, 5 Second Fix should not be used to repair electrical cables or used as an insulating material. These types of repairs should be undertaken by a qualified electrician.

Can I use 5 Second Fix on damp surfaces or under water?

Yes, as long as the surface is only wet and not greasy you can achieve a bond depending on the surface structure.

What happens to 5 Second Fix when left outdoors?

5 Second Fix is resistant against sunlight after hardening.

Can I use 5 Second Fix to fix any kind of jar, glasses, bowls, etc., which will be in contact with food?

5 Second Fix is not tested for food safety and not recommended for surfaces that come in direct contact with food.

How is 5 Second Fix different than other glues?

Glue is an adhesive that allows two parts that fit together perfectly to stick together. Glue cures when exposed to air and generally requires pressure between two parts to work. 5 Second Fix has adhesive properties but it is essentially plastic in a liquid format.

What is the shelf life of 5 Second Fix in an unopened unit?

The shelf life of an unopened unit is approximately 2 Years (at room temperature) but we have experienced much longer times.

Is 5 Second Fix dishwasher friendly?

Yes, after the 5 Second Fix is cured/hardened (approximately 24 hours) it is waterproof and safe to put into the dishwasher. Ensure the bond is strong enough to withstand the pressure of the dishwasher.

Can 5 Second Fix be wiped off surfaces while still in liquid form?

Yes 5 Second Fix can be wiped off surfaces that are not absorbent, we recommend baby wipes to make the process easier.

What is the LED life expectancy and why should I replace the whole thing instead of just the batteries?

Life of the battery is similar to that of any battery powered flashlight. You can expect to get roughly 8 hours of total use from the LED light and you are only using it for 5 seconds at a time! You could replace the battery but the production of the item doesn't make it easy to do so.

Can I use 5 Second Fix to fix electrical cables?
