Tips for online shopping
Cookies
Global Shop Direct uses a kind of computer code called a "cookie" to recognise your computer and your preferences when you visit our site to make for an easier, more tailored shopping experience. The cookie resides on your computer. The cookies do not contain any personally identifiable information such as your name, address or financial information. Almost all web sites use cookies.
Global Shop Direct places a unique user ID on your cookie which allows us to access information that will improve your shopping experience - such as holding items in your shopping cart. We may also use cookies to track traffic to different parts of the website in order to make improvements and optimise your shopping experience.
Many web browsers allow you to turn off cookies or restrict the kinds of cookies your web browser will accept. You are of course free to use these features, but they may limit your ability to use the Global Shop Direct website. We recommend that you set your browser to accept cookies from Global Shop Direct.
Check your browser
Be sure you're using a browser with SSL capabilities. SSL browsers include Netscape 2.0 and above, Microsoft's Internet Explorer 2.0 and above, Netscape Navigator version 3.0 for Windows and above, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple's Safari browser. To check your browser version, open your browser and look for the help menu. From there, scroll down and select "about". The dialog box that appears should display a version number.
If you don't already have a browser with SSL capabilities, please download the latest version before shopping online with Global Shop Direct. You can download the latest version of Internet Explorer from Microsoft.com, Firefox from Mozilla.org or Safari from Apple.com
Protect your password
When creating a password, choose one that is easy for you to remember, but hard for anyone else to figure out. One way to create a secure password is to use a phrase of two or three words and add a two or three digit number. Avoid choosing obvious words or dates such as a nickname or birth date.
Keep your password secret. If you believe someone else has gained access to your password, change it immediately.
Avoid public computers
Computers in hotels, libraries and the corner coffee shop are convenient for surfing or checking email. But be aware that these terminals are not always secure. It can be risky to transmit personal and financial information on them.
